1. Install the app
Download the signed, notarized Mac app, open its DMG, drag Notch Design into Applications, and launch it. It appears in the menu bar. The current build requires Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later.
2. Choose a shape family
Open the Designs view and select a silhouette. Ink, hair, fire, moustache, bat, mountain, and wave styles have different natural profiles; choose a shape you like before changing its fit. The full gallery includes extra fringe, flame, and moustache variations with Notch Design Pro.
3. Match the real notch
- Start with the recommended settings for the design.
- Use Extension scale to change the silhouette’s width, then Vertical reach for its height.
- Adjust Top spacing until the shape appears to come from the hardware, without a bright seam or accidental overflow.
- Use Clip to edges only where the silhouette should end at the notch boundary.
The camera cutout itself never changes. If your MacBook model or external display differs, use the display-fit controls in Designs rather than forcing every vector to share a single setting.
4. Try another look without losing this one
Design settings are independent. A wave may need a smaller top gap than a moustache; switching between them should not overwrite your earlier fit. Once the base shape looks right, try a battery ring or a music effect to add motion around it.
